Academics
Tempo is accredited by the Province of Alberta and meets the requirements set out for schools by the government, but our focus is on the intellectual development of our students.
In the Lower School (kindergarten through grade 4), the primary focus is on the acquisition and development of English language skills. Mathematics also begins in grade one, but English, Reading,\and Spelling are all taught as separate subjects. French is added to the curriculum in grade 2; Geography in grade 3. The study of Grammar replaces formal Reading instruction in grade 4. Also in grade 4, an increasing emphasis is placed on mathematics, and the study of Science begins.
In the Middle School (grades 5 through 8), students study English, Grammar, Mathematics, Science, French, Spelling and Geography. English and Mathematics are especially emphasized. In grade 6, the study of History replaces Spelling. In grade 7, Science is taught as Physics and Biology. Chemistry is added in grade 8, as is Latin replaces Grammar.
In the Upper School (grades 9 through 12), Tempo prepares students for a successful transition to university-level study. All students follow the same program of study. This comprises English, Mathematics, History, Geography, French, Latin, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
